THE EMBROIDERY IS ON THE FRONT, BOTTOM TAILS, THE EXTERIOR OF THE SHORT SLEEVES AS WELL AS THE MIDDLE BACK AND ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE BUSTLE BACK REAR. I WOULD REPLACE THE INNER SILK PETERSHAM BELTING AS IT IS WEAK ON THE ENDS.
A classic antique original Civil War era cotton work dress. The fabric has a small brown print on a tan background. The bodice is lined with cotton and the skirt is unlined. A great dress for study or pattern but still makes a nice display.
This antique cape is very unusual in the fact it’s in such rare great condition! Made of a dark brown silk velvet with black silk inside liner. The velvet has a silky sheen but it’s thick & cotton feeling.
DATING TO THE 1820’S. FASHIONED OF A SHEER SILK ILLUSION GAUZE WITH WHITE AND BLACK STRIPING RUNNING FROM END TO END. HAND FINISHED BOTTOM EDGES. Often for proper fit, hang, and wear ability, pieces will need to be altered and/or adding a hook or snap here or there, with a seam closure or strengthening needed.
ERA : 1880 ’S. CONDITION: SOLD AS IT WAS ACQUIRED. THE TOP BUTTON IS MISSING. SMALL WEAR SEEN ALONG THE BUTTON CLOSURE WITH WEAR TO THE INNER SLEEVE AT THE ELBOW ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND SMALL STRESSED WEAR UNDER THE ARMS WITH A REPAIR NEEDED UNDER THE RIGHT.
EACH SIDE IS IN A LARGE BILLOWING POLONAISE THAT IS POINTED ALONG THE BOTTOM EDGE. THERE IS AN L SHAPED TEAR IN THE CENTER OF ONE OF THE BILLOWING POLONAISE DRAPES THAT A NEAT REPAIR WOULD HIDE. ERA : 1880 ’S.
This is a rare, beautifully structured example of late Victorian tailoring. Its cropped, pointed hemline is characteristic of the mid-to-late 1880s, designed to sit perfectly over a full bustle skirt.
Purchased from a man who said the dress belonged to his great grandmother who was a prominent Southern woman in the 1880s living in Georgia. That is all I know about it. I’m not sure what the fabric is — silk or cotton. It has some hand stitching. I think the bow/sash is for the waist, but I’m not sure. • Features side zipper • Lace floral pattern throughout • Midi length with tiered hemline CONDITION: Multiple spots and areas of discoloration. What looks to be a pinhole on the waistband from where something was fastened. No other noted holes. MEASUREMENTS: Bust = 17″ across underarm to underarm, Waist = 14.5″ across, Length = 49″
This is an antique Victorian petticoat. The fabric has quite a bit of body and weight to it. This Victorian era petticoat would provide a good deal of fullness under a skirt. There is a drawstring at the waist, but it only draws closed at the back, again providing fullness and shape in the derriere region.
